Want (/wɑnt / [Translation Unavailable]) is a subtropical Town located in Belthmage Dutchy, Ziirnea County, within the Kingdom of Helsteria.

The name Want is derived from the Sylvin language, as Want was founded by Bylleris Carmichael, who was culturaly Sylvin.

Climate

Want has a yearly average temperature of 15°C (59°F), with its average temperature during the summer being a cool 18°C (64°F) and its average temperature during the winter being a cool 13°C (55°F). Want receives an average of 247 cm/y (97 in/y) of precipitation, most of which comes in the form of snow during the pleasantly short winter months. Want covers an area of nearly 4 km2 (1 mi2), and an average elevation of 3240 m (10629 ft) above sea level.

Overview

Want was founded durring the late 19th century in late fall of the year 1781, by Bylleris Carmichael. The establishment of Want was plagued by a lack of willing colonists. After attempts to pay people to resettle failed Bylleris Carmichael struck deals with nearby nations and communities to establish Want as a prison colony.

Want was built using the conventions of Sylvin durring the late 19th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Want is no diffrent. The town's buildings feature delicute timber framework hidden behind layer upon layer of finly ground plaster bleached to an almost glossy white sheen, with green clay tiled roofs and decorative brass-leafed trim. Even the smallest, poorest looking structures appear to be expencive thanks to the extreem elegence of the organic shapes and paterns going into their lofty, spire-y, vagly gothic designs. The more well off folks live in identicle homes, save for even shiner trim and a more whimsical appearance to their structures flowing forms.

Want is buildings are arranged arrounded highly ordered system of spacious baked earthen streets which form octogonal paterns, allowing the incides of the octagons to be common grounds for the buildings on the edges, be it for parkland, yardspace, plazas, or markets. The town is the proud owner of a thick set of fortified walls fashioned from querried stone blocks. While not up to snuff for a fort or castle wall, the town's walls are naturaly much larger than those of forts or castles. Therefore, the construction such a wall is most expencive. Want 's buget focused wall would serve its community well in battle in spite of looking unimpressive compared to castles and fortresses. The top tier civilian fortifications have not been wellmaintained over the years, and while functional are in dire need of some loving care and perhapse light renovation.

Want has a very calm atmosphere. People can be seen relaxing, scocilizing, and going about all manner of business other than the daily grind. Men, women, children, all can be seen enjoying life in a laid-back way in the many parks which line Want ’s streets. In spite of this, quite a few people can be seen reading and the town has an abundance of libraries. It’s quite clear the community values education.

Cultural Notes

Want 's bank was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used is known for its fluid and florid elaborate style, comprising ornate, asymmetric designs and pastel shades. It is often considered to be a playful, light style, which made exuberant use of curves and emphasized subtle asymmetry in the general shape of its structures. Walls, ceilings and moldings are decorated with numerous interlacing of curves and counter-curves based on the shapes of ‘C’ and ‘S’, along with shell forms and other naturalistic shapes.

The Herd Animal, Elk (River) near Want are known to be almost tame, such that they can be put to domestic use.

Want 's citizens partake in a curious ritual relating to their local kami. It takes place in summer and involves consuming a local narcotic to channel Truename Magic energies of tier 3 via speaking in tongues.

History

Want is in secret rebellion against their ostensible liege, having cut deals with his enemies, plotted to betray him for their own gain, or bridled under his tyranny and sought a better lord. The community’s leadership is all in on this plot, and outside viceroys or representatives are being kept carefully ignorant of the reality. The common folk may be oblivious to the truth, though they’ll doubtless have felt the same motivations and promptings that convinced their leaders to turn traitor.

In time immemorial, reportedly some time during the late 2nd century the Kami spared the town from the rampage of a legendary monster. One of Want 's local festivals commemorates this miracle.
